JK, Boggy, Boone, Wally

The kittens are doing great, and are growing by leaps and bounds. The first day that we had to go to work, we put them into Kitten Containment Center (KCC)  #1. After that first day we quickly went through KCC #2-#9. We are now on number 9, and the kittens are somewhat staying where they are suppose to while we are gone. I think that Nittany gets board and "helps" them to excape while we are gone.

It amazes me that even at 7 weeks, these little guys have such different personalities.

Johnny Kyler is the leader of the group. He is very indepedent and often will leave the "herd" to come find my husband and I while the rest of the kittens are doing something else.

Boone is so sweet, and playful. He likes to play "lion" with the rest of the kids.

Boggy is the talkative kitten. He likes to tell us what he things throughout the day.

Wally (Walburn), is the only girl in the group. She is so snuggly and sweet. What's not to love about kittens?

KITTENS!!

We got a phone call on Saturday AM that PAWS had kittens that needed fostered! I don't know if I have had a more exciting phone call.

It is our pleasure to introduce to you Wally (girl), Boggy (boy), Johnny Kyler (boy), and Boone (boy.) They are the cutest things on 16 legs and are already getting into everything. Their little personalities are emerging and they are as different as night and day.

More on the kids in a day or two! For now, PHOTOS! (Who doesn't love photos!)

Why I Foster...

I'm sure that anyone who knows me, knows that I love animals. I'm sure I could be the crazy cat lady in 0.5 seconds if left to my own devices. I fall in love with these little balls of personality, and that makes taking them back to PAWS so hard.

Kitara went back to PAWS on Thursday. Thursday night as I crawled into bed I couldn't help but cry. I've had Kitara for the past several weeks sneak into our bedroom and crawl into my arms to sleep. Then I realized that I was being selfish. Kitara is the coolest cat, and that means that someone else should get the chance to have a sneaky snuggle kitty too. This is why I foster

Friday I went to the store and bought Kitara some things to go with her to her new forever home. She loved laser pointers, treats, etc. I dropped off the bag iat the front desk, and went to say "hi" to my furry buddy. She seemed so happy hanging out. Probably because she doesn't have Nittany playing mountain lion with her, and she gets a break. It made me sad, but I knew that she would find a new family, and I reminded myself. This is why I foster.

I told the front desk that if she couldn't find a home that we'd take her back. This is something that we've said with every cat that we've fostered. I really enjoy fostering because I know that they will not just give the cats to just anyone. They try to find the perfect match so that both human and animals are happy. I really like PAWS, and that is why I foster.

I saw on Facebook that 20 cats and dogs were adopted over the weekend. WOW! How great is that that 20 families are now a little more complete with these loving furry kids in their home. I quickly went over to the "Adoptable Animals" section and looked for Kitara. She was gone!

For as much joy as the cats bring us, and how sad I feel when I take them back, the joy and excitement that I feel when I see that one of them was adopted makes everything worth it, and this is exactly why I foster.

I know a lot of people say, "I couldn't foster, I wouldn't be able to give them back." You can. It's hard, but I promise you that the first time that you see that one of "your" kids is in a forever home it makes it totally worth it! I look forward to our next house guest, and know that I will be sad when we take them back, but I also know they will find their "Purfect" home and that it makes everything worth it. That's why you should foster.

Kitara

I can't say enough good things about Kitara. She's is the perfect cat. She is quiet, she likes to play, but is also content with just laying on the couch while you go about your day. We introduced Kitara to our cat (failed foster, Nittany) after a few days in our house. Poor Kitara, Nittany drove her nuts for a while, but when Nittany stopped playing mountain lion they became fast friends. It is going to be so sad when we take Kitara back. I think saddest for Nittany. When we took Kitara back to PAWS for a vet appointment Nittany was beside herself when we came back with her friend. She was so happy.  I'm sure Kitara is looking forward to a break from the energetic kitten/mountain lion. I think that fostering is the best job in the world! We get to love on a cat for a while, but sending them back is the hard part. I really love seeing that they got adopted. It makes me so happy, and I hope that they fill their new mom and dad's hearts with as much joy as they bring to us in their short time here.

MIA and Kitara

Wonder where we went? Nittany was adopted! By us. Opps. Somehow the little wild cat has weaseled her way into our heart and our home. She was so shy and now, yikes! She runs the house and has us wrapped around her little paw!
We haven't fostered another cat since we adopted Nittany because we wanted to give her time to settle in and get use to being "ours" (in reality, we are "hers.") She has a TON of energy (as a lot of 7 months old do) and so we've been trying to find out what to do to keep her happy. I bought her a cat tree (my husband likes to point out it is the largest and most expensive piece of furniture that we own.) After a while I thought she as ready to be a "foster sibling" for another kitty.

Enter Kitara. Kitara is a three year old that we are currently fostering. She is the sweetest girl ever. I keep threatening to switch collars and send Nittany back. Kitara is the kind of cat that I think would be perfect for any house. She loves to be loved and just chill out. She gets along with Nittany (No easy task) and is such a love! Photos to come. I need to remember to get my camera out!

Melissa (AKA Nittany, AKA, Sniggles)

My hubby and I went back home for Christmas, so no foster kittys. We came back in time for our friend's to have their baby and we babysat our other neighbors dog. No kitties with the dog. The dog is awesome with the cats, and we usually will introduce them to the foster cats to see what they think of a dog. Only one cat, Saffron, did we skip this step since she sat at the window and growled at her.

We got Ms. Melissa (aka Pumpkin, aka Nittany, aka Sniggles) on Jan. 6th. She is what they describe as "under socialized" but WOW is she turning around. My husband and I sort of "force snuggled" her after a couple of days (had to make sure she felt safe here.) Now Ms. Kitty can't get enough of it. She sometimes gets nervous and will run, but comes right back.

She likes having a hiding place (right now that is under the blanket on the couch.) Last night we were watching a movie and while she was in my lap I figured I would try to trim her nails. She laid there and purred and purred. I think she knew that it would help her not get stuck on things. I only did her front paws, since she lost interest, but she was such a good girl.

We also introduced her to balls. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen in my 31 years. She will chase after the ball and play with it forever. We actually had to take it away from her last night because we were afraid she would be up all night from the excitement. I will need to get a video of her playing because it's HILARIOUS!

I was told that she didn't do well with dogs. Through a misunderstanding (we thought she was in the living room with the door closed) she was able to meet our neighbors dog who came in for a treat. She did great! She was very lovey and snuggly with the dog. The meeting did end quickly, just incase. We didn't want to press our luck.

She is a very special little girl. She takes her pills (in a treat) no problem and has developed an addition to Wildside Salmon that I'm afraid she might go through withdrawal from if we don't keep a full bag. She will knock the bag off the shelf and carry it, "Hey, Lady, Open this!"

Lots of photos taken, and more to follow.
