When I was a child I was so allergic to cats that I could walk into a friends house and tell you within a minute if they had a cat (or had ever had a cat.) If I touched a cat my eyes would swell shut. I watched my friends play with their kittens and was jealous, but knew that I would pay for days if I played with them. As a result I grew up as a "dog person."
As I grew up my allergies got better, I didn't have as bad of a reaction with cats, but still stuck to my dogs. When I was 23 I met my now husband and his cat Yorick. Yorick was a beautiful little orange cat who stole my heart from the moment that I met him. I loved that little cat, and when he passed I decided to marry is owner so that I could at least stick in the family. :)
A year ago I started to get allergy shots to deal with my horse allergy (we own a horse!) and I also got treated for my cat allergies. I tried to talk my husband into letting me get a cat, but after the horse he said no. I think I wore him down, and got him to let me foster. I picked a great organization and took classes at the center in order to become a foster parent.
These are the stories of those cats that come into our lives, even if for a short time, and steal our hearts.
That's weird about your allergies. I was under the impression that allergies got worse as you got older, hmm. I'm glad yours got better! I can't wait to read about your foster cats. It's going to be so exciting. Tell hubby that cats are way cheaper and easier to care for. I'm sure he won't regret it. :D
