Saffron-Day 3

Favorite Activity 1: Keeping an Eye on the "evil" dog.

Favorite Activity Two: Napping

Ms. Saffron has settled in really well. She is such a sweet, sweet girl. She reminds me more of an older dog than a cat. She stays out of your space, and loves to be given good pets, but doesn't want to be held. It's day 4, that may change. She is also the cleanest cat ever! She is always primping and grooming.

She is on medication, and we have to give her a pill each nigh. She is such a good girl, and there is no wrestling or double teaming her to get the pill in. She sits there like the nice lady she is, and then drinks her water like she is suppose to.

Ms. Saffron does enjoy a good nap!

Saffron Day-2

I'm new to this foster thing, but I have quickly developed a few favorite things. One of them is Day 2. My husband and I both work full time, and the first full day home alone is a very interesting day! Oakie spent it sleeping, and the babies spent it playing. Coming home to Saffron today I expected "something" out of place. Nope. Even her litter box was very clean and organized.

My husband and I share a house. We rent the bottom half of it. Upstairs includes adorable twins and a dog. These prove to be a great way to see how the cats react, without having them in the house all the time and stressing out the cats.

Saffron had the opportunity this morning to just SEE the dog. Margarita was outside the house, and Saffron saw her from the window and growled. I didn't know that cats growled. That sealed the decision that Ms. Saffron won't ever meet the dog. Margarita is the sweetest, calmest dog ever, so she's a great introduction to dogs for the cats.

Saffron

Meet Saffron! I don't know much about her, and I am only guessing that she is a she! I was so upset today after dropping off the babies and seeing Oakie that I walked off without my copy of her paperwork. I think that she is 3 years old. Ms. Saffron was obviously loved by someone, and I think that both she and I need to take a visit to Jenny Craig.

Maybe she is a he? She took over the remote and then fell asleep.
She has settled in quickly, and was a very good girl for her meds tonight. We didn't even need to use the pill gun to give it to her, she opened her mouth nicely and was a very good girl. She wasn't very interested in playing with toys, and she did get stuck behind the couch. Big day for the girl. We have fish (Beau and Luke) and she quickly found them after coming into the house. They are in a place that it's difficult for cats to get to, but she did give it a good try.

More updates as we get to know her.

Amy (Princess Beyonce) and Willis (Rusty)

When I took Oakie back to the shelter I knew that we were going to have a very hard time letting her go. We talked a lot about adopting her, and went back and forth on doing so. The once thing that we decided was that if we adopt that we could no longer foster. I was also more allergic to Oakie than I'd like and I wanted to be fair to both of us.

I asked the shelter if I could get a new foster when we dropped her off. I ended up with two amazing kittens for four days. Amy was an 6 month kitten and FULL OF IT! She was so funny, that I could just watch her get into things the whole day. She found parts of our house that I didn't know existed. She was so playful and even if I cleaned up things, she would quickly reorganize it for me. A very considerate kitten. Her name was Amy, but we couldn't help but call her Princess Beyonce. If you've ever watched Raising Hope you will know where we got the name.

The other kitten was a 3 month old, and the sweetest baby ever! It was so hard to drop him back off today. He followed us around the house and wanted nothing more than to be snuggled and loved. He watched my husband all the time, and would get up from his naps to follow us. He was such a good boy.
Rusty decided that he was going to get attention one way or another.

My husband took this photo at 3 am. I fell asleep on the couch and Rusty wanted to make sure that I am was warm.
This is the cat that got me to start writing a blog. Oakie was our first foster cat, and she won us over with meow. She spent the first day hiding under the stairs, and many a times I thought she was missing. After a few days she started to come out and sit in our lap as soon as she saw one! She had an URI and at first wasn't treated (it wasn't that bad.) We were able to take her back home after her first vet check up for another 10 days. During that time she came out of her shell and was very loving, fun, and oh so sweet. Today when I went back to the shelter to drop off Princess Beyonce (Amy) and Rusty (Willis) I stopped by to see if Oakie was still available.

I went to the cat room, and saw Ms. Oakie (Jo-Paws) and she came right over to the cage and let out the sweetest meow. Of course I started to cry, and she took her little paw on my nose. The poor volunteer probably thought that I was nuts.

Here is the link to her adoption ad! I hope she gets a home for Chrismas.

Oakie

I miss this face!

Welcome!

When I was a child I was so allergic to cats that I could walk into a friends house and tell you within a minute if they had a cat (or had ever had a cat.) If I touched a cat my eyes would swell shut. I watched my friends play with their kittens and was jealous, but knew that I would pay for days if I played with them. As a result I grew up as a "dog person."

As I grew up my allergies got better, I didn't have as bad of a reaction with cats, but still stuck to my dogs. When I was 23 I met my now husband and his cat Yorick. Yorick was a beautiful little orange cat who stole my heart from the moment that I met him. I loved that little cat, and when he passed I decided to marry is owner so that I could at least stick in the family. :)

A year ago I started to get allergy shots to deal with my horse allergy (we own a horse!) and I also got treated for my cat allergies. I tried to talk my husband into letting me get a cat, but after the horse he said no. I think I wore him down, and got him to let me foster. I picked a great organization and took classes at the center in order to become a foster parent.

These are the stories of those cats that come into our lives, even if for a short time, and steal our hearts.
